Micky van de Ven Brace Ends The Toffees' Unbeaten Streak at Brand New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Spurs prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to put their strong form at risk, and they were unable to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the scores a short while after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of excellent stops to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the referee ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves Thomas Frank's team into third place in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton stay in 14th position and are half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

After a uninspiring weekday performance in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on goal, the manager chose the French striker in attack instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to influence the game before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked Van de Ven to score.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's absence - added his next goal in added time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to nod in.

Van de Ven was equally impressive in defensive duties, combining well with his defensive colleague as the pair handled superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking striker's instinct

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have worn off somewhat and supporters headed to the exits after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a massive concern for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Toffees' pair of recognised centre-forwards - had scored only one league goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor record on a wet and gloomy evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was summed up when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having room and time to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have challenged the keeper.

Barry, too, was unable to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It was not for a lack of opportunity. Most of the home side's offensive moves came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly whipped dangerous balls into the Spurs box.
